Launch of a Workforce Development Partnership
Philadelphia Neighborhood Networks Consortium and CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy Form Partnership that Provides Employment Opportunities in Tough Economic Times
Philadelphia, PA — The Philadelphia Neighborhood Networks Consortium (PNNC) and CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy announced today that it will host a job fair on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montgomery Townhouses Neighborhood Networks Center at 20th and Berks Streets in Philadelphia to launch its newly formed partnership.
For the event, managers of 41 CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy stores located in six regions of the city (North, Northwest, Northeast, South, Southwest, Center City) will be on hand at five Neighborhood Networks centers throughout Philadelphia to discuss employment opportunities with residents of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured and -assisted communities. For those residents who are unable to attend the job fair, CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy has committed to a long-term partnership that provides residents with direct access to store managers that extends beyond the duration of the job fair.
The job fair to be conducted by the PNNC and CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy in Philadelphia will be but the first of many joint events hosted by the partners. CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy has committed to a national partnership with plans for expansion to additional U.S. cities. Like the Philadelphia job fair, all events will offer residents ongoing direct access to store managers to discuss potential employment opportunities.
In addition, CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy intends to broaden the partnership to open the door for those who qualify to pursue a career in the health care industry and launch a “Job Shadowing” component that provides opportunities for youth to explore career options in the health care industry.
About the Partnership
This partnership between the PNNC and CVS Caremark/CVS Pharmacy is strengthened by the two organizations’ complementary missions. The PNNC obtains financial and technological resources to support a network of Neighborhood Networks centers. Together these centers provide programs and services that fulfill HUD’s Neighborhood Networks Initiative’s mission of promoting self-sufficiency and obtaining access to technology.
Similarly, the mission of the CVS Caremark Workforce Initiatives program is to hire, train, develop, retain, and support the life-long learning of diverse, qualified associates by establishing partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies; educational institutions; nonprofit organizations; and faith-based organizations.
About Neighborhood Networks
Launched by HUD in September 1995, Neighborhood Networks is a community-based Initiative that provides residents of HUD FHA-insured and -assisted housing with onsite access to computer technology, resources, and job-training skills as a vehicle to self-sufficiency.
